PAUL BOWDRING

Born on Bell Island, Newfoundland, Bowdring graduated from Memorial University in 1970 with a B.A. and B.Ed. He works as a full-time writer and editor. A founding member and past president of the Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador, Bowdring served eight years as co-editor of TickleAce magazine and presently serves as an associate editor with The Fiddlehead.

He has served as a literary awards adjudicator for the Canada Council, the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters Competition, and The Fiddlehead’s 1994 Fiftieth Anniversary Writing Contest. Most recently, he has co-edited a special Newfoundland issue of The Fiddlehead, been an adjudicator for the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick 2000 Literary Competition, and served on the faculty of the Writing Studio at the Banff Centre for the Arts.

The Night Season, his second novel, has received exceptional reviews and has been broadcast nationally on CBC Radio’s “Between the Covers.” It was short-listed in the Fiction category of the 1998 Newfoundland and Labrador Book Awards.
