- Never A Dull Moment
Walter Carter has had a rather interesting career in politics. First elected to municipal politics as deputy mayor of St. John’s, he quickly made the transition to provincial politics as a Liberal. After a stint as an MHA in Newfoundland, he fell out with then premier Smallwood, and went to Ottawa as the Progressive Conservative MP for St. John’s West. He returned to Newfoundland politics as the Progressive Conservative MHA for St. Mary’s, became Minister of Fisheries under the Moores, Peckford and Wells Administrations and completed his political career as the Liberal MHA for Twillingate. Although not always consistent in his party affiliation, Carter has been consistently successful, and good humored. His insight into the political scene and his humorous telling of political tales make this book a unique contribution to Newfoundland/Canadian political memoirs.
