Cecil Parsons was born at Leading Tickles, Notre Dame Bay, Newfoundland. He grew up there and attended a one-room and later a two-room school from which he graduated in 1950. After teaching for one year at Island Harbour, Fogo Island, and two years in the “Tickle” on C and B licenses, he attended Memorial University where he attained at B.A. (ED) and a B.A. Later he earned a M.Ed. from the University of New Brunswick in Guidance and Counselling.

Cecil taught school in a number of other communities throughout the province, but Queen Elizabeth High at Foxtrap became the love of his life and his “nesting place” for 27 years. It was there he taught Latin and Social Studies and, for the last 20 years, served as guidance counsellor to thousands of high school students.

Cecil and Shirley Clarrke of Carbonear were married in 1954 and they have one daughter, Debra.
